Your experience of Victoria Sapa?
Hi All,
Im thinking of splurging on my Sapa portion of my Vietnam trip, but was wondering if anyone can let me know what they thought of the hotel?
Im looking at a package that includes train, transfers, food, 1 trek and accommodation for 2 nights at the hotel. It is quite expensive at $350 per person, but seems like a lot less hassle.
I also like to try local restaurants, so with this package wont have the chance to do so.
Do you think this is too expensive for Vietnam, or can anyone recommend another place to stay?
Thanks in advance!

We did this a few years ago and were quite satisfied. It does seem high for VN, but remember you will be getting off the train at 6am in the middle of nowhere, on the Chinese border. We found it reassuring to know there would be someone from the hotel waiting for us with transportation. The Victoria cars on the train are also definitely a cut above the rest of the train.
The accommodation and meals at the hotel are fine....not luxurious, but comfortable. We were there in winter and coming in chilly, muddy and damp after a day of trekking, we enjoyed the warm spiced warm in front of the fireplace in the lounge. Plus the hotel cleaned my muddy hiking boots so that they looked brand new.
It's a pretty seamless way to do Sapa. If you want to do additional treks, you can pick up local guides for very low cost. We walked around the village and did not see any restaurants that looked that intriguing. Go to local restaurants in Hanoi....they are fabulous.

I called the phone number listed on the Victoria website and booked directly. I needed to speak to someone because we were traveling with kids and I had some specific questions about the accomodations. The reservationist spoke enough English that I could get quite a bit of good information and organize my booking exactly as I wanted it. I believe I also received email confirmation from them after the booking was complete. (It's been a while since we did this.)
