Given your interests in hiking, exploring towns, and museums, and soaking in the culture, you may want to visit Fukuoka to explore the Hakata district, visit Fukuoka Castle, and stroll through Ohori Park. Next, you can go to Beppu for a hot spring bath and Aso for hiking.
