Where to stay in Hong Kong

Stopping in hong Kong for 2 nighths on way to oz, but have not got a clue on where to stay. Looking for mid range price, buthave no idea wether Kowloon is better or Hong Kong Island. Any comments are greatfully appeciated.

You'll need to tell us what you mean by mid-price. How many dollars per night?

This question is often asked on here and most people ( though certainly not all ) opt for the Kowloon side. In any case you will travel backwards and forwards across the harbour during your stay. You might look at Salisbury, Park , Mirimar and Holiday Inn but as Kathie says we can help you more if you give us an idea what you are willing to pay.

It really doesn't matter, as long as your hotel is near the MTR (subway), in my opinion.

And another important question is when are you going? Starting in October, many of the hotels will double their rates due to the start of the Canton Fair. Even the YMCA will cost you $160+

Going in december. Sorry I am British and looking to pay between £60 and £90 a night. 3 * and maybe a few 4 * available for that price from expedia. Garden City, metropark, prudential, south pacific, empire, royal pacific.
All of these come up in my price bracket. Not really sure on plans when we het there yet! Just see the main sight and maybe a little bit of shopping. Not much time!!

For a HK 1st-timer, I'd suggest the Holiday Inn Express in Causeway Bay -- good location in the midst of lots going on, excellent access to the MTR, and decent price.

(BTW, no need to be sorry that you're British.)

kellylp - Of the ones you listed, I'd take the Metropark. It's pretty new and get good reviews. Some rooms have view of the Victoria Park and perhaps a little of the harbor.

kuranosuke - Canton Fair is the twice-a-year trade show in Guangzhou. With the region being the factory for the whole world, business people from all over come to it every April and October. During those times, hotels are super expensive all over the Pearl Delta region, including Hong Kong.

I have mentioned in other message, if you are looking for the nice but inexpensive place to stay, you can try a famous hostel call YESINN. They got licensed from HK Govenement to operate the hostel. You can book share dorm if by your own or private room! They are very busy and need to book early in advance!
