Where Are You Going in 2010?

..and no, "to the poorhouse" is not the answer to this question!

Seriously, where are you headed? How long will your trip last, and will this be a first-time visit, or are you returning to a place you love?

I expect Carol will tell us she's running for mayor of Bangkok, but where in Asia will you land?

I have my fingers crossed for the following:
BKK and Luang Prabang
Paris
Corsica
Bkk- Cambodia.

Glad to see you posting BC, will you be going anywhere in 2010?

Hi bookchick! Glad to see you here. Our only booked trip is to Istanbul and Cappadocia for 10 days in March/April--our first trip to Turkey. We're tossing around other ideas for the summer, but nothing is set in stone yet. One trip we may make later in the year is to take another look at your big university; it's DD's favorite at the moment. Will you get to go to Italy this year?

>>>Where Are You Going in 2010?<<<

(Anywhere, via SQ 'J and above' is fine with me; yes, easy to please.)

Thanks for the thread, 'BC'; at present:

Work:
Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Tokyo, San Francisco Bay Area, and do hope to spend more time in 'ICN'. (Via Singapore Airlines, as much as possible; and no disrespect to you, TG and UA.)

Holiday, with family/friends (most likely, long weekends, at best):
UK, Hawaii, an undisclosed location, and Kathmandu for a long over-due reunion with some all-time cherished mountaineering buddies.

Joyous, prosperous and healthy work/leisure travel to all of you in '10.

macintosh (robert)

Me? I'm not sure yet what'll go on in 2010. I am slated to return to Boston to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in April, the Friday before my birthday. Other than that I honestly don't know right now. I'm back in school and training for a job in a new field, so I guess a lot depends on how quickly I wrap up my course, how successfully I've completed it, and how fast I can find a new job. (I intend to work in a new field concurrently with my present job, and eventually transition into the new field permanently.)

Really, Ms. Go, Michigan for Ally? I would be delighted to meet all three of you if she heads this way, and would also be happy to take Ally to see the Friars perform. You should search for the Friars of UMich on utube for a good laugh! Well, it's a good school, I can't deny it, I loved going to school there, and they did enable me to study in Italy for a year, too. Turkey sounds amazing, and I hope it is.

Smeagol, BKK, really? Are you going to drug Muffin or just conk him on the head to get him on those flights, LOL! I must confess that eons ago when I was going to university in Italy, I told one of my French profs that I wanted to go to Corsica, and he talked me out of it. He said someone so young and fair-skinned and blonde shouldn't go to Corsica unaccompanied! And I was crazy enough to listen to him!

BillT, NOW I know why you read the "Bob & Gpanda" trip report so closely! The hotel sounded great to me, I'll be interested in hearing what your impressions were after you return.

Macintosh, that is some SERIOUS mountaineering, wow! Your work sure takes you all over the place, but I have a feeling you thrive on it.

ekscrunchy, those sound like intriguing locales. I'd love to go to Hong Kong sometime. My immune system prevents me from getting the vaccines that would allow me to travel to Asia just now.

But...coming here and reading about where you're all going gives me the energy and patience to "hang in there" until I can travel again on my own!

Thanks,
BC

Hey....Guess what !
We're heading for Phi Phi in February, and of course some time in Bangkok.
Also planned for 2010, is a spring visit to Berlin, Vietnam in November, and there's bound to be something else in between.
Seen some awesome Roman ruins in Lebanon on T.V. so I'm currently looking into that.

2010 is a work in progress but here are the tentative plans:

February: 2-1/2 weeks - Varanasi (India), Kathmandu & Phulbari (Nepal), and Bangkok - all depends on the situation in Nepal (may spend more time in India instead)...

July: 8 days in Colorado split between family reunion in Snowmass and family visit to Montrose with two night side trip to Mesa Verde...

October: to celebrate our 20th anniversary we were originally going to spend 2 weeks in Bali but we have a family commitment that will prevent us from spending that much time - instead we will be spending 1 week in Maui...

It will be a good year, no matter where we go...

Happy New Year to all!

Bob - why New Orleans to Florida border? If you play golf, bring your clubs to stop along the way. Not the most scenic of views though.

3 weeks in Vietnam in May and hoping to get to China the following year. Wish I could squeeze them both in this year!

Mrs Go - Turkey is terrific. Check out the Fodors book - p. 379 for my picture of Cappadocia.

If you want a reprieve from the cold and a charming historical city for a few days - go to Charleston.

Craig, I hope you & Jeanne will be able to make it to Boston in October, despite your somewhat hectic schedule. Someone has to keep the Red Sox fans in line, you know....
