Western grocery store in Bangkok
Hi, We will be in Bangkok for just a few days next week. We will be looking for a place to stay , just for next Winter. I would really like a good idea about the kind of food etc. that we will be able to purchase while living there. Could you tell me the name and address of a supermarket that will have the most comprehensive Western foods for cooking at home? We love Thai food, but will be eating that in restaurants.

These days, most supermarkets in Bangkok sell a good selection of western foods - at least a lot more than they did 20 years ago. The Tops stores are the most common. You'll find one in almost every shopping mall and a few outside of malls. Anything imported is going to be expensive, and it doesn't matter where you buy it. A lot of people think Villa and Gourmet Market are more expensive than regular stores, but the truth is they compete very well on price if you compare the same items.
Locally produced western foods will be a lot cheaper than imported ones, and for that I would definitely recommend Villa, which carries a lot of 'exotic' foods like shepherds pie which are made by little local producers.

The one that I have shopped at for years, is the supermarket on the top floor of Emporium Mall (Promphong BTS station). My serviced apartment building is attached to it. I can find about everything I'm looking for there.
I've even bought my Amy's frozen, vegan pizza and frozen, vegan lasagna there. And the Amy's company is here in California. I once sent the owner of the company a Christmas card. from Bangkok, saying how excited I was to be able to satisfy my cravings when I saw her products. When I returned home, to L.A., there was a really nice letter waiting for me, from her, and full of coupons. Smiles.
Happy Travels!
