Junkgalore,
Just to say we didn't book this trip through LL but I'd be surprised if the hotel wasn't as flexible as they were with us.

I would email the hotel directly and ask about the room, because most of the hotels in Ubud are at a fairly low occupancy I think they'll should be accomodating.

Good Luck!

LynElliston,

I've found the best source for international news of Mt. Merapi is Google News. Just go to www.google.com, enter in either "Mt. Merapi" or "Mount Merapi" and click on News. You'll get daily stories about the volcano's activity and evacuations.

Just posted our pictures. You can see them at www.eyebright.com/travels

Click on photo albums and then on the map....they're divided up by area so if you're just interested in Borobodur it's easy to get to the photos quickly.

welltraveledbrit, thanks for posting your photos. I enjoyed them and since I leave in two and a half weeks, looking at them has gotten me very excited. It's given me a taste of what I can expect.

welltraveledbrit, loved your report. As you may know I live in Jakarta and travel to Central Java and Bali frequently, both for personal trips and as an escort for my American customers and I was pleased to read that Indonesia didn't fail to charm.

Thanks marmot, I didn't see your comments as we've been in NYC visiting family.

This was our second visit to Indonesia and we'll definately be back.

We've been visiting SEA quite a bit in the last few years and after our Cambodia/Vietnam trip in July it's time to change our focus for a while.

I'm keen to spend more time in Europe, Our current, and much contested, shortlist includes revisiting Egypt, visiting Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, seeing Eithiopia, Morrocco and Libya. All of these possibilities should keep us busy for a while!

Consequently it may take us a while to get back to Indonesia. However, it remains on our long list I'd very much like to visit some of the other islands and particularly the Toraja area, perhaps in combination with PNG.

We're just back from two weeks in Bali and we stayed a few days in Ubud at the Royal Pita Maha.

This is true that their web site just does not pay justice to this place. The place, the view, the villas, etc... are gorgeous !

The only thing is that you have to go down (and climb up again) many, many stairs...
