Dr. Ralph: www.hotelscombined.com will do the trick. They show you the prices for ALL the hotel discount chains.
It's useful to know [so I'm reliably informed]that hotels PAY for inclusion in Sawday's book - that's why you'll notice on their website a great number of hotels suddenly no longer recommended by Sawdays. I guess they didn't pay their yearly dues. I still use it tho' - regardless, it's a great reference]Please, somebody correct me if I've been misinformed.
But for all the rest - check out hotelscombined and then go to your company of choice.

dogster - I hadn't heard that about Sawdays. There was one time - Portugal right before a European football tournament - that I got a better price booking through the Sawday's site than I would have done direct with the hotel.
It is true that while the website says that they visit the hotels etc., there's nothing about whether they accept kickbacks.

It depends where you're going but if you are going South I would check out the www.cghearth.com family run chain of hotels. They are great!
