August is one of the better months in terms of rainfall. But weather is unpredictable...it might rain all day, or in short spurts, or not at all. SEA in general follows a tropical weather pattern, with heavy rain for a short time being more common than days on end of pouring. http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/48698.html

I live very near Singapore and visit there often. It will be hot and humid, and you'd be wise to have a collapsable umbrella with you at all times. Rain showers seem to materalize from nowhere, but in my experience, the rain doesn't last very long. Good chance for sunny, hot days.

And when it rains, the rains are torrential... but typically not for long. I've gotten caught in many a rainstorm in Singapore, and have ended up wandering around somewhere to wait for the rain to subside. You can stumble across interesting places that way.

I lived in Singapore for 5 years. Generally, the time of year when can rain for hours or even days on end are during the winter monsoon, which starts in late October and runs through about late April. In other months, it rains for brief (but sometime intense) spurts, sometimes with thunderstorms. Some parts of the island will be sunny while others are having rain, even on an island that small. Always carry a small umbrella and you will be fine for the occasional rain (enterprising shopkeepers will also put them out on sale during storms). It's pretty much always hot and humid, you just get used to it.

I'm usually there in August...along with December/January and as mentioned above...take an umbrella...and if it does rain it usually comes down in a short downpour. Just take cover like everyone else and wait until it stops. I've never found the rain to be a problem. Happy Travels!
