Weather Question for Vietnam

I've seen several posts about weather in Vietnam and people have posted links to different weather websites. But I'm totally confused about when would be a good time of year to visit Vietnam. I'm thinking of a trip in 2009. From my preliminary research, we are interested in Hanoi, Hue, Hoi An and Sapa. At least that's a start - I'm sure once I get into planning, I'll have different (and more) ideas on where to go. But when I look at when the weather is good in Hanoi (i.e., not raining and cold), it seems like it's going to rain in Hue. Is there a time of year when we are likely to hit 'reasonably' good weather in all of those places? I know I'm thinking ahead, but ideally would like to go later in 2009. I really can't afford the time or $ to go away this year, and we're planning to go to Nicaragua next February. I'm also hoping to have enough ff miles to be able to make the trip to Vietnam.

Thanks!

We just returned from Vietnam last week and we had same indecision about when to go because there was no perfect time to go for all those cities as you mentioned. We eliminated Fall to November due to rains in Hue and Hoi An and Sapa and Halong Bay would be too cold in Dec., Jan., and Feb. Also, Feb. is TET holiday. We chose May 1 for our 2 week trip which begins the low season. We rather have the heat than the rains. it was pretty hot and a bit humid and if we had showers, it did not last.

That's a difficult question. We went to Hanoi in November and the weather was lovely. It was very warm, but not terrible hot, and we had no rain. But while I wanted to visit Hue/Hoi An, November brings rains and often flooding to the area.

Spring might be a good time, as February, March and April have low rainfall in both Hanoi and Hue.
