All of a sudden, it has dawned on me that we'll need visas for our upcoming trip to India. Due to other international plans, we don't have a lot of time to be without a passport, and because we live in the Boston area, we don't have a walk-in option. One of us has two weeks MAX to get this done. Can anyone tell me what the process was like and how long it took to accomplish the turnaround?

You can go to this website, and call them, they'll be very accommodating. i had them rush a visa, got it back within a week. They are the official consulate of india handlers.

I had to rush a business visa for India last year with a similar constraint; I needed my passport back quickly for another trip. I used CIBT (in the link above from thursdaysd). I communicated my timing issues, and I don't think the passport was gone for more than a week. There was a function on the CIBT site for monitoring status, so I knew when it was received, submitted, etc.

Another option: You can drive to NYC (Manhattan) and the Indian Consulate will do it while you wait. Call before you go.

i live in boston too and i sent mine away to DC....it took two weeks...

why not dash down to nyc and have it done in one day at the UN consulate...??

This is the website of the Consulate General of India in NY. They cover the NE states and this is where I have always gotten my Visa for India (I have a US passport).

Thank you all! That's one less thing to worry about. If I had the time to make a day trip to NYC, well, then I really would have nothing to worry about! Alas, as it is I'm wondering how I've rationalized this (short) trip, and glad to know we haven't screwed up (yet).
