Hi
We just returned from HongKong and Thailand. Away over three weeks. Did not take shots before going. Most people we talked to did not take
any shots. It is a personal thing as to how you feel, and if you are travelling in very remote areas.

In addition to checking out the CDC website, you might check the local hospitals for travel clinics. I went to one in Chicago before we left. What vaccines you would get will depend on where you are going (city vs. rural) and what you had when you were younger. They also provided us with general guidelines on eating, drinking, etc.

Personally for our trip to Beijing, I updated my diptheria/tetanus and got a shot for Hep A, both which are not a bad idea in general, esp if you travel.

We are heading to China as well. As we will be cycling through the country, we were told by health authorities to get Japanese Encephalitis but this is not necessary for more short term stays in tourist areas. The usual vaccinations of typhoid are recommended and we also got Hep A. Have fun!
