US Airways free ticket question

I will be using US Airways partners and US Air for Asia trip in December. Should I be concerned about the US Airways portions of the trip (will they still be in business)? AM flying Thai and Singapore over and back but my connections to NYC and back from San Francisco to Atlanta are on US Air. Only other option would be Air Canada via Toronto on return, then Toronto-Atlanta but I'd have to give up the Singapore Air experience from Hong Kong to SFO. Any thoughts?

Nobody knows if they'll still be in business then. And even if you book your whole trip on partner airlines, those airlines may not honor your FF award tickets. They may, but maybe not.

And your Dividend Miles will be useless anyways. So, go ahead and book it, either way. If they fold, then find alternate means of flying. Unless you have other ways to spend the Dividend Miles before that, which I will recommend you to do.

BTW, if you're flying coach, then there's really little SQ offers over other airlines.

Kathrynj-- You beat me to this. I was just about to post a "panicked" help -- need advice message with the same question. I hadn't even thought about this when I booked the ticket and now am in a panic. I should add that I am only using partner airlines.

For what it's worth,I called both US Air and Thai yesterday and asked. US Air said they had no idea. The man at Thai ff department (and, yes, I got his name) immediately said they would honor it. I made him repeat it 3 times and I plan on calling again today and asking the same question.

But I'd love to know if other people have any thoughts.

Glorialf, when I searched "US airways" on the talk forum, I found issues like this have been going on for the past 2 years with people concerned about what to do....I am flying business and may see if I can get on United's non-stop from Hong Kong to SFO then back to Atlanta. Singapore to SFO and US Air to ATL. Also, I think you are staying at Tamarind Village---will be interested in your experience as that is also where we'll be staying in Chaing Mai.

Kathrynj--I have booked United to NY and then Thai to Bangkok. I figure if United bumps me or makes me fly standby, I don't care. It's the Thai flight I'm concerned about.

Actually, I have not stayed at Tamarind
I'm planning on staying at Baan Orapin when I'm there although if reports on Baan Orapin aren't great I would probably go to Tamarind.

When will you be there?

Not for a looooong time (first week in Jan. actually) I'm only planning this far ahead to get the free business class FF ticket! I could not get anything on United either Hong Kong/SFO/ATL or via the Europe route. So far, I am sticking with what I have and will see as it gets closer....

Kathryni-- I'm doing the same thing. I'm leaving on December 31st and plan to come back on Jan. 25th. I'll be spending most of the time in Chiang Mai and Bangkok with a few days in Yangon. What about you?

glorialf--will start in Bangkok, then Chiang Mai, Phuket, Anghor Wat and 2 day stopover in Hong Kong, leaving the 4th, returning the 19th which is the very max of time I can possibly take off. Have a trip to Prague and Krakow in May to keep me occupied before this one!
