Ubud Hotels

I'm torn between staying at a luxury spot called Villa Semana that is located on the River or staying at the Trip Advisor's #1 pick of Tegal Sari which is way cheaper. My husband and I prefer quiet as opposed to shopping/hustle bustle. I am concerned I will be too close to town if I stay at Tegal Sari. Any thoughts on this?

Take a look at the Alam Shanti. We stayed there at it was perfect. It's on the back side of the Monkey Forest, but a short walk into town. It's very quiet, but very conveient. It has eight rooms in four buildings. We stayed in the Gaanga room which has a beautiful overlook onto a rice field. They will serve breakfast on the porch of your room. Nice pool. It is $150++ per night. This group also has some other properties, the Alam Jiwa and the Alam Indus.

I haven't seen Villa Semana, but Tegal Sari, while within walking distance of the main shopping area is a little bit off the busiest of the hustle bustle you want to avoid. It backs onto the rice paddies, so you can sit on your balcony and just see fields if you wish, but the street is within sight from the other direction.
