Doc Chengs at the Raffles Hotel was wonderful for dinner and not as expensive as you may think also have a Singapore Sling at the Long Bar (be prepared to pay) and to the Compass Rose atop the Westin great views. Arab St and Little India were interesting. Jurong Bird Park was great and I heard the night safari was cool but we didnt get to go to that. Also Clarke Quay and boat quay have a lot of nice restaurant with the menus posted. We like Clarke better and if you are staying near Raffles and Westin please check out the shopping center Chijmes. This stands for Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus it used to be a church and stop at Peter Hoes a very COOLl store I bought some nice rings and shorts and dress there. <BR>

Richard & Joan, go to Sentosa Island and also have 'Breakfast at the Zoo' we used the public transport, it is excellent, just have lots of change and you can't get change on the buses. There is also a science museum that we visited. Peg

If you want a real Singapore experience, find out if Newton Circus for dinner is still up and running. Last I heard they were going to raze it for housing (typical Singapore attitude). But if it's there, go there in the evening, stop by the stalls, order a big grilled prawn, fried rice and liter of Tiger Beer. You'll sweat in the heat, but it's great atmosphere. <BR> <BR>The hawkers at the stalls are aggressive, and they'll fleece you into buying overly expensive food if they think they can. <BR> <BR>The Long Bar dispenses Singapore Slings out of a keg a ala TGI Fridays. Skip the drink. Slings were never that good, even in Somerset Maugham's day.

Slings were definitely better at the top of the Westin, but have one at the Long Bar anyway, just because.

We always eat at the hawker food stalls in Singapore - generally cheap good food. If Newton Circus has been closed, there are plenty of others - check with your hotel for the closest.
