I have heard that once you are in Bangkok it is easy to book a side trip to an island. Is this true or is it recommended that we make all our travel plans in advance? We will be in Bangkok for about 6 days and want to go to an island for about a week before returning to the states but at this point we can't decide which one. If it is an easy thing to book once we are there, that might be a better option for us.

As long as you aren't traveling at the busiest time of the year, it will be easy to book. Between now and mid-January, it will be very busy.

We will be there May 5 - May 18 (approximately).

the best fares are often received by booking early... i always book early to avoid any disappointments about price or selected flights...
