Travel time to Hoi An
Cruise ship docks at Chan May Port outside of Danang and we want to get car/driver to Hoi An. How long will it take for the drive:have been advised it is 3 hours each way. Hue has been suggested as more reasonable alternate site for visit. Any suggestions.

If i remember correctly, it was a couple hour drive (i think, or maybe less) from Danang to Hoi An..I preferred Hoi An over Hue..but also liked Hue, except the temps were way cooler in Hue (we went in January 2007)..
I think Hoi An is a better choice, i really enjoyed it, we took a cooking class, had some clothes made... and it had a better atmosphere than Hue...

According to my atlas Hoi An is only 30 miles from Danang, and Hue is 108, so I find the advice puzzling. Unless the port is a long way outside Danang? I don't remember exactly how long the drive to Hoi An takes, but it was nothing close to three hours! Is this just a day trip?

Well, if it's an hour north, I suppose it might make sense to head for Hue. For a day trip I might choose Hue too, but I'm not a shopper. For me, Hue has more atmosphere, but Hoi An is a nice place to walk around, and you could still fit in a trip to My Son while you were there.
Still can't find a Chan May port, but there is a Cape Chan May Dong marked north of Danang, and if the port is near there you would definitely be closer to Hue.
