I've used Travel Guard for years. In 2005, I had to file a claim and they paid up although it took some months because a LOT depends on wording. I had a missed-flight situation and had to have the airline reword their letter about why I missed the S.F.-Paris portion of my flight..due to fog. After the claim was denied, I contacted the airline to reword it to how it should have been worded in the first place, and then the insurance paid. Happy Travels!

What sort of insurance do you need? Trip cancellation? Medical? Medical evacuation?

Try a search - both on the Asia boards and the other boards. I've seen this addressed all over the boards several times in great detail.

Check out insuremytrip.com for comparisons. I've also used Travelguard but only for expensive trips to Africa that are booked months in advance.

I am based in the UK but use Amex Annual travel policy which provides comprehensive worldwide cover for £149 ($300 US)for two of us. After some research this represented pretty much the widest and best cover for the price. I assume they offer something similar in the US if that is where you are based.

crellston, unfortunately the type of trip insurance you are talking about is NOT available in the US. This came up on this board recently when Leigh wondered why those of us in the US often don't buy full-coverage travel insurance. In the US, you have to buy insurance trip by trip and full insurance usually costs 10% of the trip price. While I do carry med evac insurance, otherwise, I "self-insure."
