What do you want you insurance to cover? medical evacuation? medical expenses? trip cancellation and interruption? lost baggage?
You can buy bundled insurance that covers everything (usually the most expensive way to go) or you can choose exactly what you want/need.
Given that everyone has different insurnce needs, I don't think there is a "best" insurance. If you say specifically what you are looking for, perhaps people will have suggestions.

check out www.insuremytrip.com. They have comparisons for you to look at. They cover all the good companies. One thing to keep in mind, if you take out the insurance within 2 weeks of paying money on a trip, you will be covered for pre existing conditions. May not be a concern to you, but something to remember.

Looking for insurance to cover cancellation of the trip or having to end it early due to illness of parents at home. Also to cover if one of us gets sick and can't make the trip-cover the cancellation of the trip. Also medical coverage while on the trip.
I will look into the web site you gave me, Pat. Thanks!!

Lsotinchina, My last trip I didn`t know which policy would be best for me at insure my trip. I called them and they asked me my main concerns, and they helped me pick out what was best for me. I will use them again. Insure my trip also shows you how the companies are rated, and I pick an A rated company. I picked travelax, with their help, and this trip, I`m going with CSA.

Based in the UK we have an annual travel policy with American Express which provide "comprehensive" cover for the 2 of us for as many trips as we take each year as long as each trip does not exceed 60 days (I wish!). The policy covers pretty much everything we need , medical expenses to $10m, repatriation, cancelleation, delays or missed flights, personal accident, loss or theft, winter sports, scuba diving to 30m etc.
The cost is £149 p.a ($295) which I think is reasonable for the no. of trips we take and the potential cost if things do go wrong.

crellston, both you and Leigh have written about annial comprehensive travel insurance available in the UK. Such a product does not seem to be available in the US. I buy my med evac insurance on an annual basis and it's very inexpensive, but comprehensive insurance is very expensive and available only on a trip by trip basis.
