travel from KL airport to KL centre hotel
hello
we are staying in KL (as part of honeymoon) later this year. Trouble is I'm not sure how to get from airport to hotel (mandarin oriental). Am I best to get the KLIA (if so do I need to get tickets in advance and how?) or is it easier to go back taxi.
Quite happy to get train and underground as its usu more interesting but also heard that traffic problems in KL can mean it can take over an hour to get to hotel from airport?
any comments/tips greatly appreciated
thanks

We've taken taxis both times approx MR70 each way. (about 50 mins from Chinatown). The train looks great, however for the convenience, we decided taxi straight to our hotel was easier. It depends on what time your flight gets in as to traffic chaos.

The time of arrival will also determine if train is better in that if you are arriving after an overnight flight or if you arrive late at night, you may not be in the mood to change trains at Sentul to get the local line to KLCC (Mandarin Oriental is right next door)which means lugging your luggage from one train to another, then rolling it next to the hotel. Another alternative is to get the train and then get a taxi from Sentul Station to the Mandarin, but this would probably negate any benefit time-wise as the traffic could still be slow if it's peak hour or if it's raining. The train is only 28 minutes and costs RM35 per person each way. Overall I think it best to get a cab all the way from airport to hotel. But you might consider the train on your return to the airport. If you are travelling on the right airline, you can check-in at Sentul quite a number of hours before your flight so if you have to check out of your hotel by noon, say, but the flight is in the evening, you can get a cab straight to Sentul Station in the morning, check-in, getting rid of your luggage and you're free and easy for the rest of the day, then going back to Sentul for the 28 minute ride to the airport, remembering to allow enough time to go through the Immigration procedures. If night-time flight is the situation, you could leave that last day to visit places of interest in the general area of Sentul Station Brickfields. The Islamic Museum, Grand Mosque, Bird Park, etc. etc. are only a few minutes away by taxi from Sentul Station, and you could walk around the second Little India in Brickfields area, have lunch or dinner there.

Sorry mean to add that it's going to take an hour from airport to town in any case as it's a long way out. Also, if you do decide to take the speed train from the airport, you can get tickets at a counter after Immigration but just before you arrive at the Meet and Greet area and they will be happy to show you where the life is to the station level. From memory the trains depart every 15 minutes.

I took a taxi from the airport to the hotel...Ritz Carlton and vise-versa. It didn't take anywhere near an hour. From the hotel to the airport was on a weekday and in the mid-morning but there was no unusual traffic. It was smooth sailing all the way.Happy Travels!
