Miyazaki for four nights? It is over 3 hours to Beppu, 5 hours to Fukuoka and about 7 hours to Nagasaki. Even Kagoshima is 2 hours away, Kumamoto about 5 hours, and Ibusuki over 3 hours away.
Unless you've got a clear plan for what you are going to do in Miyazaki I advise not going there, esp. on a first trip to Japan. Where are the 1 hour train trips?

I purchased the Fodors travel book and it stated that the train from Fukuoak down to Kagoshima was an hour. So I erroneously concluded it would take about an hour by train to go other places I guess.
The main thing I am looking for is a place in Japan where my husband and I can relax by a beach and just spend alone time together. We liked the Sheraton from a previous post where there is a beach and shuttle into town, plus spa treatments.
If anyone can reccomend anywhere, a clean b & b by the water anywhere in mainland Japan we'd go for it in a minute. My spouse is up for the one hour flight, but if I can save him from that I'd be happier.
If anyone knows of one of these places please let me know and I am going to do a text and google search later today. Thanks
