Tibetand high altitude

My husband and I are traveling to Tibet in September and would appreciate hearing experiences of others who have so traveled. Advice, please! And thanks!

We were in Tibet in June and had a wonderful time. Beautiful country and friendly people. Had prescription for altitude medication and some on the tour took it with good results. Others tried a type of tea (don't know name but was from the hotel gift shop)and that seemed to work for them.
We spent our time in Lhasa visiting the usual tourist sights--a very interesting culture with a rich history.
If you have any questions please contact me. I love talking about our trip!!
Katie

To cope with the altitude, some people have tried gingko biloba. It's herbal. Diamox is widely used, however, I would not recommend it unless you feel the onset of AMS. The sudden altitude change you are going to experience (either via Chengdu or Kathmandu) will normally result in a dull headache. This, again, is normal, and should not be any cause for alarm. It would be best to take it easy the first couple of days while in Lhasa and not "climb any mountains" so to speak. Teshi delek!

Just got back from Tibet and wish that I had brought a Camelbak.

I spent 3 weeks in Eastern Tibet this summer. I'm now posting my travel journal to a blog: httu://rigzinsblog.blogspot.com

Come on over and have a read, if you like.
