Tibet / Nepal question

Ok back from my trip from Vietnam and Myanmar.I have been to Singapore, Hong Kong.,Malaysia,Thailand, Sri Lanka Parts of India, Cambodia . Looking to start to plan another trip. Was thinking of Tibet and Nepal with a stop at Mt Everest at base camp. Any other suggestions. Im 37 y.o. and like exciting places with lots of culture.Any tour company that anybody can recommend for this? Best time to go and how much time will be needed.Thank you all for helping with my last trip.Everyone should go to Hanoi , Sapa, Bagan and Rangoon to see the Shwedagon Paya

Don't have any recommendations for tour company, but just want to say that while there's a border crossing between Tibet and Nepal, the road is poor and there's really no scheduled bus service there.

You may need special permits to go through that border, and I am not aware of tours, other than special excursions that do Nepal and Tibet at the same time.

In short, Tibet and Nepal are two totally seperate trips. And even if you want to fly, you'll probably need to take 3-4 plane rides just to get from Kathmandu to Lhasa.

Okay, I did a little more research on this, and now I understand what we're talking about...

- The base camp you're talking about is the one on the Tibet side, and not the one on the Nepal side. The Nepa base camp is not accessible by road, only by trekking. But the one on the Chinese side is a short excursion from the Tibet-Nepal Friendship highway.

- I find quite a few tour companies running overland trips between Nepal and Tibet. But please read the "conditions" section of this tour company's webpage. I think it has a good description of the problem anyone may face:

http://www.project-himalaya.com/tibe...land-11day.htm

- I was wrong, and there is direct air service between Lhasa and Kathmandu, at least in the summer months.

I visited Tibet in Aug 2004 and wrote a trip report which you can search on this site. I used Wind Horse Adventure Tours and they were great. It is the in-country agency used by many high end travel agencies. The contact details are in my trip report. I've also posted photos of my trip on pbase.com/msallen/tibet_2004. Just keep clicking the thumbnails and you'll get to the entire gallery.

Hi, i don't know if this is what type of tour you are looking for, but I can recommend Imaginative Traveller as a tour company to travel with..Have travelled with them twice and they are awesome..Small group travel where you get to see the real country..I have not used them to Tibet, but they do have a tour that starts in Kathmandu called Overland to Lhasa..Check them out..The itinerary and prices are shown at http://imaginative-traveller.com/des...&code=HAOV
