Things to do in Chaing Mai

Hello everyone,
We'll be in Chiang Mai in mid-February for 4 nights and were wondering if you could recommend an itinerary for those 4 days. We'd like to combine a few things every day (for example elephant farm and orchid farm) and the national park. I'm not sure what the distances are and what we should do each day to make sure our days are spent efficiently. We'd like to go to Oasis spa as well!

Thanks again for everyone's oh so helpful input!!

My favorite spot is Doi Suthep, the temple on the mountain that overlooks the city.

this wat that brad mentions is the #1 attraction in my opinion....the long road with all the shops and workshops is well worth the better part of a day as well....

heading for the airport is always my favorite direction....leaving town...

Hi Nadyad, Am in Phuket now but was just in Chiang Mai for 4 days and enjoyed it a lot. Yes, that temple was special to see and we also stopped another time at a Karen village. One full day was the Chiang Mai Cookery school which I highly recommmend. Wandered the streets, markets also and that was fascinating. We went to the Arts and Cultural center and were greetly royally---a charming young woman gave us an escorted tour---gives you a real sense of the history of Chiang Mai as well as the region. I would definitely go back---didn't get to do the elephants, maybe next time.

1. Lampang elephant camp and nearby market to sample crickets, wild boar, local nuts, silk worms.

2. Umbrella factory, take a favorite personal item, have one of the resident artists hand-paint a pic on it for 50BAHT.

3. Elegant glass factory if you like glass-metal sculpture.

4. Celadon pottery.

5. Silk factory. Their off-the-rack garment did not fit my portly US frame, so they custom made me the piece at the off-the-rack price.

6. Sunday night Walking Market. Local artisans, very nice work, very low prices.

7. If we go back, we will skip the silver factory (high prices, more pressure than a US used car lot) and jewelry factory (same pressure, ridiculous prices).

If you come to chiangmai let's
Day 1: visit doi suthep temple and handicraft village at Borsang ,evening enjoy with tradditional thai food and thai dance with old chiangmai cultural center.
Day 2 ; visit Elephant camp, show, riding, oxcart riding, bamboo rating, orchid&butterfly farm
Day3 : Visit Doi inthanon national park, waterfall, hilltribes, king&queen stupa and hightest peak of Thailand
Day 4: relax and walk around Chiangmai .
All this that i did last time that i went to Chiangmai and if you need the best service of the local company that they can offer the best price for you lets check at the local company as we did last time at http://www.chiangmaitic.com or contact with Mr. POM at E-mail : [email protected]
He will give you more than what you paid for?
Thanks,

My favorite restaurant in CM is Nang Nual, a seafood restaurant on the river, close to the Sheraton Riverside. Tourists don't know about it so the customers are mostly Thai & a few expats. The food is great and the atmosphere is unique.

if you go to Doi Suthep, a nice sidetrip can be had by going to Phuping (sp?) palace, if open...incredible grounds and flowers. Queen's roses as as big as basketballs
