The Maldives - a shoes question!
Apparently, the hotel we have booked for our honeymoon has a 'no shoes, no news' motto! Does this mean that shoes are not required in the evening when dining etc?! I was hoping to just take the shoes I wear on the plane

Sounds like that to me. But if you're only taking 1 pr of shoes and wish to wear them, I'm sure you can.
But why not just contact the hotel. For all anyone knows, there may be some law against wearing shoes. Nothing surprises me anymore these days!

I am very cool about not wearing shoes! I suppose its just such a bizarre thought, to be running about in the evening in a dining room with nothing on your 'tootsies'........ at least I will have the pair I wear on the plane in case Ive got it mixed up
. Ill contact the hotel as well

I think the whole 5 days we were at the Four Seasons I put shoes on once.....the first night for dinner, when I realized they were just getting full of sand on the walk to the dining room. Very little is paved at that resort....it's mostly soft, sandy pathways. Much more comfortable running around there with your feet "au naturel."
If you are more comfortable with something on your feet, make sure you throw in a pair of flat, comfy open toe sandals.

I assume you are staying at the Soneva resort(s). We are going there next week. I spoke with the travel agent and read up on the resorts and they do not require you to wear shoes to anything other than to play tennis or enter the gym facilities. If you want to wear shoes to other things you can. In sum, go barefoot to dinner!

Stayed at Soneva Fushi
You can go to dinner barefoot...but the guests I saw all had there shoes on. Your choice-
You may want to wear them anyway, since it's very dark at night and the walk back to your room can be quite long depending where you stay on the island. They give you a flash light...but you don't want to step on any shells, branches etc... ouch!
I just removed my sandals once i got to the table...more fun running your toes through the sand.

The food, service and rooms were all excellent.
