Thailand in March/April - How hot?

We are planning a two-week trip to Thailand the last week of March and first week of April to coincide with our childrens high school spring break, and we have also been able to find 4 buisness class seats using miles (which was hard to find). We were planning on 4 days in Bangkok and the rest of the stay at a couple of the beach areas of southern Thailand. I have read that the temperatures can be very warm this time of year, but was wondering if anyone has been there that time of year and is it too hot to really enjoy touring sites, being outdoors at pools etc... Any feedback that could put the weather in perspective from the stand point of being able to enjoy the trip would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

My family was in BKK and Phuket this past year at exactly the same time of year: end of March, beginning of April. Yes, it was hot, as expected, but completely bearable.

BKK seemed hotter (especially touring the Grand Palace), since you are in a city but, if you choose a hotel with a pool, a jump in the water works wonders. We were in Phuket and the weather was terrific, hot and sunny, which is what we look for if we are heading to a beach. We've been to other places that felt hotter.

Unless you are someone who simply doesn't like "hot," I wouldn't worry about the heat. Just take things a bit slower and visit some air conditined spots if touring BKK.
Have fun. Thailand is amazing.

Give some thought to going up to Chiang Mai and the elephant conservation center. There have been several posters that have indicated that this was the best experience for their children in Thailand.

Thanks, it sounds like it should be workable if we take it easy. Will definitely check further into Chiang Mai. We really are just putting together our itinerary so we are still open to options.

I have stayed in Thailand from early December till early March twice and have noticed that month by month it gets hotter there. March/April is noticeably hotter than the months before.

Having been in BK in April 2 times and Phuket since 2000 I found BK very unpleeasant due as much to the hunidity as the 95-98 degree temp. But just about everything has A/C and 90% of the taxis have proper A/C sysyems. If not get out and take another cab. The most you will loose is 40Baht. Chiangi Mai at that time is slightly cooler but the Lampang Elephant Conservancy and the hill tribes are very interesting as is the visit to Doi Suthop (?). If you arrange to be there on a Sunday the night market starting at 4 but best from 5:30-7:30 (cooler) is interesting). I would recommend 3 full days is sufficient. Phuket is intersting as a beach and snorkel/dive destination for 3-4 days ad it is warm but a bit cooler than BK.

April is the hottest month in Thailand. Temperatures can reach 40c so it's pretty hot if you're not used to it.

That's 104 degrees F, for those of us trapped in the non-metric world. The simple answer to your question is very hot. However, do not let that deter you. BKK and Phuket are always hot. As SK said, there is a lot of a/c and if you plan your days accordingly, you won't suffer.
