Bangkok - Silver Shops
Where are the inexpensive silver shops- we used to shop at the ones located behind the Oriental Hotel but on our last trip there they all seem to be wholesale and the minimum purchase seemed as I recall to be 10,000 Baht. In the past a number of these shops allowed retail purchases and they were very reasonable. Is there now another location where one can find inexpensive silver jewelry?

Thanks! So if I start at Shangri-La will there be a number of silver shops to visit or are they more towards the back of the Sheraton?
Any update on the tear down of this sky train station and the moving sidewalk they are supposed to build from the river to the next skytrain station?
By the way are you guys providing a trip report on your current travels?

The silver shops are mostly in the area of the road right behind the Oriental Hotel. This is, I believe, the area where you have shopped previously. If you walk out from the Oriental to New Road (aka Charon Krung Road) and turn right there are a couple of blocks of silver shops. There is a big shop just as you make the turn. Happy shopping!

Yes we have shopped there last time and the prices were not good. We turned left followed for several blocks and all the shops were only wholesale and required large minimum spend amounts. Sad as in previous trips we really did find value in these shops.

We didn't think the silver would be a good deal at MBK- they don't seem to want to bargain very much. As I indicated the best deals were those silver shops on the main road behind the Oriental Hotel. There never seemed to be many tourists in those shops or that area as it seemed to cater to wholesale buyers. The shops had row after row of plastic containers stacked to the ceiling each one had bracelets, rings, necklaces, bangles etc. Some shops would cater to both retail as well as wholesale but you could tell that their overhead was minimal and they sold items by weight. Now they seem to have eliminated sales on a retail level and cater only to wholesale buyers with a large minimum purchase.
