It sounds like you had a great time. We would definitely want the guest house as we like having our own bathroom as well.

We went to the Arashiyama Monkey Park when we were in Japan in July 2003. (We also went to the Monkey Park in Nagano - the one where the monkeys have their own hot springs - now that was a lot of work to get to, but alot of fun). We really enjoyed the Arashiyama Monkey Park, I need to post some photos from our trip there. I believe we took a train out and walked from there. It's a bit of climb up the mountain, but do-able.

Kyoto has so many wonderful things - lots of "off the beaten track" things so you are not always looking at a famous temple with 100 of your closest friends.

After reading all of this, I'm actually considering skipping Yudanaka and the Monkey Onsen altogether and spending a lot more time in Kyoto.
It is our first trip, after all.
