Taylor recommendations

I've hear about men tailored suits in BKK.
One recommendation I've got is James. Any feedback how good he is and where he's located?
Any other recommendations in Silom area?

Thanks.

I went to James in Bangkok. I have a lot of suits and the ones I got made are my favorite EVER. I went in about 10AM and got measured and fitted. I had a flight out of Bagnkok around 11PM. All my clothing was delivered to me at the airport. 2 slacks, 2 vests, a jacket, 2 shirts and they threw in a bunch of ties.

Everyone always recommends multiple fittings. From one fitting everything managed to fit well, except 1 shirt has a collar that is a little off, but still quite wearable.

if you havent already been to bangkok, then u'll soon realise its a place filled with tailors..literally. Everywhere! they seem to get every free spot on the street.

Things to watch out for:
1 - NEVER go into a shop that promises your suit to be ready in 24 hours. It'll be ready for sure, but it'll b a product completed in 24 hours, and the product doesnt turn out great. Trust me
2 - ALWAYS ask for at least one fitting. Even though the tailor says no, insist.
3 - ALWAYS get the best quality they have. And dont make them use their salesman techniques to get you to pay more. An awesome suit in bangkok should cost no more then 10,000 - 12000 TOPS. Price ranges from like 6000 - 12000.

Now, the tailor that I use frequently that has treated me well over the years and provided me with numerous suits is:

Crown Tailor
Inside Sukhumvit Soi 8
www.crowntailor.com

I highly recommend him because I think he's one of the few tailors that actually pay attention to you as a customer for more then once and looks after you well after you buy from him. Im sure you can email them up and get a price list or whatever you need. I know its not in the silom area, but its a 10 min cab ride away, so i just wanted u to have another suggestion.

Oh yea one last thing. If you want to stop those sales man from pulling you into their shop, just tell him you already bought a suit from elsewhere. If he asks where, just point across the road somewhere and walk away while he's searching for the shop. Hope it helps.

I used James Fashions in March - I got 2 jackets, a pair on linen trousers, 2 linen shirts, and a cotton dress shirt... their pricing was good, and after 3 fittings, the fit is fine (nb it definitely required 3 fittings since after #2 things didn't fit quite well). The last fitting was done in our hotel room at 8:30AM and they returned the finished goods to us by 12:00 so that we could leave to make our 2PM flight! The service was excellent...

My problem with them was the quality of the fabrics... After wearing the clothes since then, and after a few dry cleanings, both of the linen shirts have these weird "stains" on them - not an accident from teh dry cleaner but I think it was some kind of reaction - almost like a plastic had melted or something... but I'm not a huge expert on fabrics, so maybe someone more astute may have picked out a fabric that didn't ahve plastic in it...

When I was at James, they asked me my choice level for material. Cheep, midrange or top level. The salesman advised me to get the best, since they were much less than American prices. Glad I did this.

I second what Bob said. He sent me to jack last year and I loved what he did for me! One of the suits I wore when I interpreted for the president and mine looked just as good as his did

I am a fan of Jack at Monet Sarto. His selection of fabrics was large from the best mills: Valentino, Cannali, Zegna. It pays to get 140 to 180 superfine 100% wools for Jack's price difference over say 100 or 120 superfine might be $15/slacks and $35 for a suit but a pair of Cannali 160 superfine wool will be $70 vs. $250-$300 in US. If you order a lot it is better to have Jack ship it and after 3 fittings (can be done in 2 days, 1st visit is 1-1 1/2 hours but the other fittings are 30 minutes) give him 7-8 days to make to perfection and ship to you. That may add 5-7 days but he often will share the cost if your are spending $750+/-. But, one of his suits from the best fabrics would cost $1500-$2000 in US.
He did not have Loro Piana fabric when I was there last April. It is the best in 180-200 superfine. Next time I will email him and give him 3-4 colors and ask him to have Loro Piana fabric available. The cost difference is maybe 10-12% tops.Other tailors like Raja I hear is also good. But less tnan 2 fittings is unwise. I had 4 fittings to get it just right and went the first time the night I arrived ib BK-he stayed open ubtil 10PM for me and generally I went back 3 more times just before dinner. It was a 10 minute taxi ride from the Penn and he helps you get a taxi at the Marriott only 100 yrds. away after each fitting. The taxi fares were$2-3USD.
