Taj Mahal under construction?

I'll be travelling to Agra 27-30 of August 2017, and I found out that the Taj Mahal is under construction.

Does anyone know if the restoration will be complete by the time I'm going, or at least which parts will be covered, it's a real shame to see the highlight of my trip under scaffolding.

I held exactly the same worries when visiting the Taj last September. I think that this is a very long term restoration project that will not be completed until at least 2018.

However the good news is that they are only doing segments at a time and so most of the structure is as glorious as ever. You may get a sense of which bit is impacted currently by checking on recent pictures on a forum such as trip advisor.

Having worried about this before getting there it turned out not to spoil things for us at all when actually there ! The whole site is very much bigger than we had envisaged and there were plenty of options to take photos that did not include the minaret that was scaffolded when we were there plus we also enjoyed looking much closer up at the many carvings.

Incidentally I can highly recommend going at sunrise if you get the option. The light was superb and the whole experience felt

This is what I worry too as we intend to visit in December. Thanks loncall for sharing. It's refreshing to know that we can still be able to enjoy the majestic Taj Mahal despite of the construction. Cheers.
