Tailor

My husband would like a new sport coat tailored in BKK. We will be there for two days in late January, staying at the Peninsula.

Any suggestions?

To be perfectly honest, I don't think 2 days is long enough to have something done well. There are plenty of places that promise completion in 24 hours, but when the work is rushed, it is not truly custom made, but made from a pattern and slightly adjusted for fit before being completed. You may or may not be satisfied with the results, but if you are not, you will not have time to have any problems fixed.

I have to agree with Kim. You really don't have enought time for custom tailoring. Wait until you are there long enough to have it done well.

Again, agree that 2 days may not be enough. But if you REALLY want the clothes, you'll have to be spending quite a bit of time at the tailors. You'd probably have to go in early morning on the first day to measure n choose your stuff and fit yourself later that day itself even! and again have another fitting the next day and pick it up in the evening. As mentioned a kinda rushed job - but if desperate then i guess it could be done.

I think you could get a decent coat made by going for a second fitting on your second day in BKK, and then having the tailor ship the coat to your home. Shipping and customs duty will of course add to your total cost, but it will still be enormously less than anything you could get at home.

However, as watts says, you will be spending a good chunk of time at the tailor shop. Up to you to decide if it's worth it.

If you had it shipped home to you after completion, you run the risk of it not being what you wanted or fitting well with no way to change it as you are no longer in BKK.

Unless you trust the tailor or have worked with him/her before, you shouldnt have it shipped home. Better to spend a little more time there and make sure your coat looks and fits perfectly on you.
