Surgery at Bumrungrad?

I just visited Bumrungrad last month. I wanted to check about having dental work done-mostly crowns. We visited and got a tour on one day, but I wanted more info on my dental work, so I made an appointment for the next day. My husband went along so we could process the info together. We were very impressed with the doctor and the equipment, although not as up to date equipment as my dentist has. We all know that we also pay for that expensive equipment. The equipment was more that adequant. The doctor was very good and very understanding and compassionate. My appointment with x-rays was $30, but the crowns were going to be about the same price as my discounted rate here. It would also take about 2-3 weeks total time to be able to order the crowns. I decided to have it done here, but would not hestitate a moment to have work done at Bumrungrad. It was a very pleasant experience.

Guenmai, pelican, and everyone who took the time to read my thread,
Thank you so much for all of your responses. Not only have I been looking for feedback from my post on this board, but you have not heard back from me as I am also researching actual plastic and cosmetic surgeons who practise out of Bumrungrad and also Bangkok Nursing Hospital. I needed to know who was board certified here in the U.S.A. and who had great crudentials. I need to see before and after photos as well. If I were doing my surgery here i the U.S., I would be searching out his history as well, and I am nervious, sceptical, I read other comments on foreign surgical message boards that scared me alittle. I need to keep my eyes open and my ears to the ground, no surgery should be taken lightly. I am new to message boards, and I am a very private person. I appreciate everyones feedback, and to tell you all the truth, this is the first board I have ever become part of, It took alot for me to open up and put myself out there and be completely honost about telling strangers my plans and fears. So please be gentle with me I didn't mean to vanish for a while, I really didn't think anyone would really pay attention, let alone respond to me. Please keep the comments and advice coming, I promise I will be checking in more often. I am currently researching two well known surgeons in BKK. If anyone has any positive input concerning a Dr, Preecha, who rented space to practice at Bumrungrad, then move to Bangkok's Nursing Hospital and set up his own clinic. please let me know. Also, Dr. Amorn Poomee is currently chief of staff, they have another phrase for it...over at Bumrungrad...I am waiting for his office to send me info on himn and pictures of his before and after photos...So you can see I did not intentionally vanish, I just needed to do more research that temporarily detored my attention to other sights for more medical info...If anyone has more info let me know.
I plan to have a tummy tuck and maybe Breast augmentation, and I know it will be painful with a long recoop time before I fly home to New England.
Pelican..I would love to hear more from you and your experience...
You all are great, and I feel as though I am making new friends. What a great way to get to know people. thank you so much...lol China

I am really curious about what you had to say about insurance. I have Blue Cross Coast to Coast, and I don't think they will cover my hospital room..I think my coverage is just for the continental U.S...never heard of using american insurance for foreign surgery....leaern something new every day...lol china

It wouldn't apply to cosmetic or such but I know my local insurance I can use pretty much anywhere in the world, though I have to pay and get re-imbursed up to about USD 500 but over and above that it is covered without me having to pay out first, if I travel overseas from Thailand I am still covered for accident/treatment/hospital bills etc.

China...just try emporiumsuites.com . You can access it that way as far as just getting information about the serviced apartment building. Later, I'll check out tripadvisor again and write down the exact steps I took to access that information.Let us know which doctor you end up selecting and how it turns out so that I can pass the info on. Happy Travels!

China...I went on tripadvisor.com and had no problem pulling up the reviews. Just type in Bangkok in the middle space and hit GO and then hotels will pop up and click on the, "next 15" and click on Emporium Suites then the first review is from the woman from Greece that I was talking about...the woman who had the plastic surgery. They have a forum over there. Maybe you can contact her through it. Happy Travels!

James A,
thanks for the info. I have checked out majestic suites, and it is on my list of 'top choices'. Tummy Tucks and breast surgeries are toughs surgeries, they kick the crap out of you for weeks, so I cannot use all the beautiful facilities a great hotel has to offer while i'm post-op and recooperating, but my travel partner might enjoy a beautiful pool, great hotel or local food, cheap $5.00 thai messages are also on my list. I read on a different forum that thai messages, most of them are non-sexual and can run for about one hour for five dollars . If I am told by the thai ps that my surgery cannot be scheduled for afew days, I wuold like to stay at a hotel that offers 4 to 5 star accomadations, facilities, that I can enjoy...I'll hop on the skytrain and see where I'm at..My goodnes..I'll be in Bangkok!!! My first few days after surgery, I plan on staying at Bumrungrads own bhresidence apartments. For those of you that are just starting to research thai surgery travel, Bumrungrad understands that most international patients travel with a friend, family member or sig-other,,Both of you can stay at the bhresidence apartments. They are immaculate and start in size at a studio, then go up from there all the way to huge suites with dining rooms. extra beds can be brought into a less expensive room which is so cheap it is around fifty dollars, maybe less., to a hugh suites around 300.00 a night. What is fantastic about these residence apartments, is that they are attached to the hospital itself, and nursing care and doctor

James A,
thanks for the info. I have checked out majestic suites, and it is on my list of 'top choices'. I read about lower priced rooms and suites and apartments have coachroaches, and that is another concern of mine. I hate bugs. I realize that mosquitoes and other flying bugs can't be helped, but roaches and I can't share a hotel room togather. Tummy Tucks and breast surgeries are tough surgeries, they kick the crap out of you for weeks, so I cannot use all the beautiful facilities a great hotel has to offer while i'm post-op and recooperating, but my travel partner might enjoy a beautiful pool, great hotel or local food, she may enjoy having shopping at the hotel, or near by, so she can stretch. venture away from the hospital atmosphere, and take a breath every now and then, cheap $5.00 thai messages are also on my list. I read on a different forum that thai messages, most of them are non-sexual and can run for about one hour for five dollars. They didn;t mention how you find them...through the desk at the hotel? bellhop? anyone out there know? If I am told by the thai ps that my surgery cannot be scheduled for afew days, I would like to stay at a hotel that offers 4 to 5 star accomadations, facilities, that I can enjoy...I'll hop on the skytrain and see where I'm at..My goodnes..I'll be in Bangkok!!! What is fantastic about these residence apartments, is that they are attached to the hospital itself, and nursing care and doctors visit you right in your room. Room service also offers service from any of the american and or local food vendor in the hotels lobby/mall area..including starbucks..they catuer to foreigner..especially americans. After a week or so of close hospital care, I thought I would start venturing out to a close by hotel, the Zenith or Magestic Suites, stay there for afew days, save afew dollars, then when I can stand up alittle straighter, and I can move around without tiring out so easily, I would like to stay at the Bangkok Marriot, and stay on the river for three nights (pay for three get 4th night free). Maaaaaaaaaybe by then, I can enjoy a river dinner cruise, dangle my feet over the side of a beautifully lit up thai style contemporary pool at night, sit on my terrace at night and watch a magnificient Bangkok sunset..just sigh and say to myself "I'm glad my surgery is all behind me..God this city is beautiful at night....
Have I talked your ears off yet???
Any suggestions for a Bangkok's first timer would be great. I do not plan to go until January 2007. It seems far off, but really, one year will fly by so quickly. I plan on chatting with Pelican to hear all about her facelift experience..anyone with breast augmentation and tummy tuck info at Bumrungrad, especially with before and after photos would be greatly appreciated.
Two months ago Bumrungrad offered before and after photos from each PS, so you could shop and compare scares and desired results. They have remosed this gallery on their new website..They no longer consider themselves Bumrungrad Hospital...but rather Bumrungrad Internatinal..."thanks to 60 minutes, their prices wil go up..charge more because they know other countries are more expensive,,,and travelers will
pay" I'm looking forward to hearing from all of you. I stayed up late to read you responses...I'll be looking forward to them every day...my new friends......china

Guenmai,
I just finished researching emporum suites. their rates seem to start at 6,000.thiabaht. that converts to $147.U.S. that's alittle pricey for me. what did you end up negotiating for? If I got a really good deal, I may consider this hotel, as it is beautiful and clean. Do you think I could negotiate for a lower rate for a stay over, let's say,..one week or so? I'd love to hear from you..china

Austine,
You were asking about other boards regarding Plastic Surgery. I hunted around travel forums and put in plastic surgery..or a hospital. I went into thaivisa.com/forum/index.php show topic=48457&hl then plastic surgery. Sometimes just going to thaivisa.com will just happen to mention plastic surgery or bumrungrad hospitalmblah blah blah...se it this works for you.
Bythe way, anyone have any info on pelican? is she for real or is she a medical pro running her own deal? tht is something you will find as you research medical forums. they talk and sound like they are people inquiring about certain procedures diseases or conditions, all the while they direct you to a website to grab your business. it is very common. some boards ban this type of business advertisement as it is dishonost, banning these companies and or business people from their site...as with alot of forums advertising and soliciting business is prohibited.
Anyone try to e-mail her at [email protected]? Her website has been blocked for some reason..maybe she is soliciting business and they caught onto her...if your real pelican..you will have do better than this to prove you are who you say you are...did you really have a facelift or you just wanted me to go to your site for future business... in my absence, i have learned alot about these message boards..please my new friends becareful.....china

The price I got, by talking directly with the sales manager, was a bit under $2500. for three weeks...for an 80 square meter studio with washer/dryer and daily breakfast included in the restaurant. The rent goes up as of today, Nov 01st, so I was able to freeze the rent back in August when I did the negotiation for next month's stay. So,I will not be affected by today's increase when I arrive next month. The increase will probably be somewhere between 200-300 baht more per night as I was told by the sales manager. The brochure quoted price was much higher than what I got and that was minus the rent increase price.I have the brochure at home. Happy Travels!
