as I said - they are rumours - however they have been discussed on MCOT and other media outlets - as I also said, who may have started them is anyone's guess - both Red and Yellow shirts have a vested interest in mongering such rumours.

I dunno... I just booked a side-trip from Hong Kong to Phuket for a few days in late October and am very much looking forward to it: possibly as a precursor to a longer visit "down-the-road". I'll be sure to let y'all know if I suffer inconvenience due to "anti-government protests"! ;o) (but don't hold your breath).

I kind of suspect that the chances of getting rained on are higher (quite a bit higher) than those of getting caught in a protest.

THe title of the thread is concerned that Thailand is getting a bad rep.....

Regardless of any political affiliations one might have, it seems to me that this sort of publicity IS bad for Thailand both from the point of view of tourism and international investment.

I don't have any immediate plans to visit Thailand, but if I had, I certainly wouldn't be deterred by protests of the kind I've read about. The original post is plain silly.

I think its sad that all the media buzz is about the protests and the problems. If you go to www.youtube.com/thailand you will see interviews with people during songkran asking them about how the 'violent protests' affected their holidays. The airport incident was politically motivated and the yellow shirts have no reason (or support) to stage a protest there again (they have decided to direct their attention towards Preah Vihear now).

Anyway, no one wants to talk about the good things, like how cheap you can get a room for in Thailand now, or how Thai food is still the best cheapest food in the world. It sucks that these events have given Thailand a bad rep, but common sense people will realize that Thailand is still a great place to visit.

Oh yeah... KhunWilko, i was in Bangkok at the weekend (as always) and the only hot-spot i witnessed was a Ratchadaphisek discotheque. As for your constant star-gazing efforts, get out a table at Soi Rambutree and charge a beer chang a read.

News or gossips from certain people are like cheap news from cheap tabloids. Most intelligent people don't bother with it but at the same time the can't get rid of it.
