Thank you so much, of course we leave soon. I am very concerned about getting car sick (which I do!) what was I thinking? How can I cut back on a night in Dambulla and add to tea country? Can you give me an example of this? Is there a way to minimize driving time between Wilagama and Ella,

I don't se any way to do that. It would be lovely to spend some time in tea country, but you don't have the time. Indeed, I think it may be difficult to fit in all the places you want to see in the cultural triangle with a mere three nights.

#3-9 Mirrisa and Goyambokka have nice beaches within striking distance of Welliagama
#11 in Ella you could take a walk up "Little Adams Peak" much less taxing than the Big Adams Peak!
#12 no idea of the location of your hotel but presume it is close to Dambulla. If so, the Ritigala Nature Reserve has a nice monastery in the forest and NAMAL UYANA CONSERVATION FOREST, famed for its mountain of Rose Quartz ( and a hermit monk who lives in the first and loves to talk to tourists!)The forest takes a bit of finding as it is some 8kms off of the main Dambulla –Anurhadapura road.
#13 I didn't feel that our visit to Anurahapura was worth the effort of the long drive. Polonuurawa was far more impressive.

For a nice setting I would suggest you The Gallery Cafe, it also has a nice varied menu which I would best describe as a kind of modern fusion mixing in a bit of Italian, and asian styles. I am sure you will a fair selection of vegetarian options as well in the menu. Great desserts too, chocolate nemesis and cinnamon ice cream are signature desserts.

We like the Lucky Fort which is a family style restaurant in Galle. We can echo the chorus of recommendations for Polnoarruwa. Details and photos of both on my blog...
