Crusin how VERY kind of you and sweet to remember. (i still LOVE those guides) I actually already have the Hanoi guide as i bought it last year when we were going to go but ended up in Malaysia but many thanks for your thoughtful offer.
I have been reading the "read on travel" site for a while this evening and it's very very interesting. I'll keep you posted and thanks for the encouragement.
Any trips planned yourself?

Was Muffin drinking when he said yes? Let's go to VN when it's really raining. England isn't rainy enough. We could use some Monsoon-type rains. Of course, this is the same couple that is looking forward to spewnding time with Bob. De gustibus...

ACTUALLY Andy alot of the rain is in Central VN where will avoid (as per begining of thread) so i suggest you check your glasses perscription!!

I have read so many travel books about the weather and North and South seem OK for less rain, just a shame i cant do Hoi An etc.
Funny you should mention had he been drinking he'd had the odd pint of foxes hat that day yes. (it was the upper class tix that swung it!!)

Annoyingly, Muffin has been chatting to a friend today who has just completed a month long trip of SE Asia (wealthy older couple) anyway he has totally put him of Ho CM saying of all the places he has been to it was the worst, he felt he would be robbed/hassled at every turn and the traffic and food is awful!!! (he even suggested that we would struggle to get proper meat and would be served dog, monkey and rat and told its Chicken)

So now he is wobbling about Vietnam (damn i ordered guide books yesterday)

Whilst i have heard about the traffic, i myself am not to worried as i have read all the great posts on here, so i guess i am asking for some reassurance i can show him!!!

Thanks
x

Ha Long Bay - wasn't impressed, especially if you seen the similar one in China, prefer Tam Coc, Hoa Lu. If you decide to go to Ha Long Bay, an overnight junk don't expect luxury. You do have to stay overnight in Ha Long if you decide to visit. Otherwise, turn around to go back to Ha Noi, hardly enjoying.
I went to Hue, Hoi An in December and pouring rain, certain areas flooded, got sick there.
