Singapore Activities

My husband is headed on business for 2 weeks in Singapore sometime in July/August. I am using my miles to go with him...

Would love suggestions as what not to miss and ideas for the weekend when we will we will be able to travel someplace nearby together.

I love nature and travel photography, we are hikers/walkers, bikers, love unique food experiences/cooking classes (I am in culinary school), his hobby is woodworking/furnature building so he loves browsing through shops. We also enjoy markets, historical sites, city tours and the theater.

Thanks for the help!!

Do a search first. Type in "Singapore" in the Search Box. We've written a lot on this topic. Happy Travels!

A search will turn up dozens of ideas for you. This is an often-asked question on this board.

I love the Asian Cultural Museum (both branches). Raffles also has a small museum that is worth a visit.

There ia a whole area of antiques an unsual items located in old army barracks - for some reason, I can't remember the name of the area right now. There is a shop that that I visit every time I go to Singfapore and I always find something worth buying.

The area Kathie is referring to is Dempsey Rd and it's just down the road from the Botanical Garden. In the last 6 months it has started to undergo a major redevelopment....it's becoming the hot/hip new area for night time and is just starting to be referred to by its new name, Tanglin Village. There are 3 new wine bars there, a Korean BBQ restaurant, a Mexican place, an organic grocery, a huge Karaoke/ballroom dance place and several other new restaurants. I'm sure new shops will follow. There are currently a few nice furniture shops that feature Indonesian and Burmese teak, some Chinese antiques and all kinds of decorative accessories, and several large Oriental carpet shops. Fun place to wander, but wear comfie shoes because it's pretty spread out.
In addition to the Botanical Gardens, which are fabulous and worthy of several hours at least, here are also a number of nature reserves here where you can hike around. Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and Sungei Buloh are both very nice. Watch out for agressive monkeys.
Raffles offers cooking classes, as does a restaurant on Clarke Quay called Coriander Leaf.

Thank you, Lindsay, yes, it's Dempsey Road. I knew someone could come up with the name!

Yes, the Orchid Garden/Botanical Gardens are a must, especially given your interests. The Jurong Bird Park is also a lot of fun. Really beautiful...
