shenzhen hotel

We will be arriving at 11:00pm at the Shenzhen airport. We want to spend the night and then take the ferry to Hong Kong the next day. Can anyone recommend a convenient place to stay? We are just looking for a place to sleep. Thanks

suzanne97 - I don't know much about specific hotels in Shenzhen, but you won't be taking the ferry to Hong Kong the next day. No reason to.

In my opinion, just find the best hotel for your money in the center of Shenzhen. Taxis are pretty cheap from airport to hotel, and then another taxi the next day to the Lo Wu border crossing. On the Hong Kong side, trains run every few minutes down to Kowloon.

Thanks again rkkwan!

How long should I expect it to take to get from downtown Shenzhen to the JW Marriott in Hong Kong?

Some Shenzhen hotels are within walking distance to the Lo Wu border crossing. Others are further away.

Time to cross the border depends on day and time. Hard to predict. The KCR train from Lo Wu to Kowloon Tong takes 33 minutes; there, you switch to the MTR (about 3 minute walk) which takes 15 minutes (and one change at Mongkok across the platform) to Admiralty.

Fare for KCR from Lo Wu to Kowloon Tong is HK$33; double for 1st class. MTR fare from Kowloon Tong to Admiralty is HK$10. Mind you that trains can be crowded, so expect to stand unless you go 1st class for the KCR.

If the above doesn't sound too appealing, especially if you have lots of luggage, you may want to consider taking a coach. You still have to get off at the border to clear immigration, but it's a one-ride to Hong Kong.

Coaches go to various locations in Hong Kong, and you want one that goes to Central or Wan Chai. Then taxi to JW Marriott.

Also, there are 2 main road crossings that those coaches use. Most use a "Wong Kwong" crossing, others use "Man Kam To". If you get to choose, take a coach that crosses at Man Kam To, even if it costs a little more. Less crowded and less "messy".

We very recently went from the Shenzen airport to the Intercontinental in Hong Kong (arriving from Guilin). We took the 8:20 AM flight from Guilin, arriving at 9:30 AM, and were at the Intercontinental around noon. We had originally planned to take the ferry but decided not to wait and just hope the bus. Cost us 100HK each plus a taxi fare of about 30HK.
