Shanghai to Chengdu?

Hello

Seeking advice on getting from Shanghai to Chengdu; should I organise a flight before arriving in China (I'm in Australia) or will it be easy/easier to book the flight once I land in Shanghai?

If so, where? Shanghai airport?

Thanks for any advice!

Are you spending anytime in Shanghai at all? And what kind of fares are you getting in Australia?

The full fare coach for Shanghia Pudong to Chengdu is 1,610 RMB. If you have time to go to a travel agent in town, you can probably save about half. But if at the airport, the discount may be quite a bit less.

It's a route with frequent services. I count about 14 daily from Pudong on 4 airlines. Curiously, don't see any from Hongqiao.

Yes, I will be in Shanghai for 4 days on business; fares Sydney-Shanghai-Sydney are $1199 return, which is pretty good (in my book).

I'm just nervous about NOT booking Shanghai accommodation for the 3 nights I hope to be in Chengdu, in case for whatever reason I can't get a flight there once I get to Shanghai.

Actually, I was wondering what kind of fares you're getting in Australia for Shanghai-Chengdu.

Anyways, I think you should wait until you get to Shanghai before buying your tickets to Chengdu.

As for the hotel rooms, most hotels let you cancel reservations within 24 hours. If that's the case for your Shanghai hotel, then book it, and then cancel those nights you'll be away AFTER you get your plane ticket. Or just don't book those nights in advance - I am sure the hotel in Shanghai won't kick you out, and there are lots of accomodation choices in the city.

thanks, rkkwan.

Can I ask what site you're seeing the 14 flights from Pudong on?

I usually look up schedules and fares on:

www.oklx.com

They're supposed to have an English page, but I can never get that to work. So, I use their Chinese one.

You can also look it up at www.travelchinaguide.com
