Air prices to/from Guilin
I have been quoted ticket prices from Shanghai to Guilin on Oct 14, 2005 for $125. On Oct 16, 2005 from Guilin to Shenzhen for $80. Is this a good price or should I visit a travel agent in China.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Those are decent prices. You may save a little if you buy them in China, but not by too much. Full fare SHA-KWL is about $170. You can probably get it for about $90-100 in Shanghai.
Full fare KWL-SZX is about $88, and you may get it for about $50.
I don't know where you're getting your fares, but it seem like the place selling you those tickets are getting about fares of about 1/2 the full fare, but then tag on about $35-40 service fees.
Since there are 4 of you, together you may save about $300 for the 8 tickets if you wait until getting them in China.

Thanks. I got the prices from wacts.com They said that the $125 includes the airport tax, etc. I was wanting to try to book the tickets in Beijing on Oct 4 when I arrive. Do you still think I can get the better deal? How much time should I expect to spend to find a travel agent and negotiate?

If you want to get the best prices, wait until you're at the city of your origin - that is, Shanghai and Guilin, respectively.
But the problem is that SHA-KWL and KWL-SZX don't have a lot of frequencies - unlike PEK-SHA, etc... So, if you want to make sure you can get to your destinations on the flights you want, you MAY want to book them ahead here, especially if you can find less than full-fare prices.
