Shanghai Hotels?
Does anyone have any suggestions about the hotels in Shanghai that are similar to JW Marriott, but not as expensive? I read some of the posts on the JW Marriott and some said it wasn't worth it.
I don't know if we want to be near the Bund or the Tomrrow Square?? Which is the preferable location or does it depend on what we want to do there.
I guess we are mainly thinking of shopping while there. There is a museum I heard too.

I think the Bund side of the river is preferable as unless things have changed since I was there in late '05 there is nothing around these grand towers which means longer taxi trips etc to get to the other side .I do however recollect a Marriott Hotel on the river which Gershman ( see below ) recommended and we went to look at it .Looked fine in a seen one seen 'em sort of way . The beauty of hotels opn this side is that rooms - notall of course -face the Bund which at night is truly amazing as the whole city is lit with lasers and all sorts of colours .We bought a book called from memory called , Born To Shop by Suzie Gershman which I know sounds dreadful but it was part of her series on cities around the world and she had great tips on hotels etc where she stayed and was a good adjunct to Fodors. We stayed in a funny old 1930's former apartment block at the end of the Bund with views but it is not somewhere I heartily recommend ,but it was cheapish with views.
