Shanghai & Hong Kong
I've just begun to plan a trip to Shanghai and Hong Kong. Would 3-4 days in each city be enough? I have no itinerary set yet but I will reference top TripAdvisor suggestions for both cities. The only things I would like to do is boat tour of Victoria Harbor in HK on one of those traditional boats and a tea plantation tour in the area surrounding Shanghai. Are there any must see/interesting attractions I shouldn't miss? I have traveled around Taipei and Beijing by myself so I'm familiar with China. Last question is late March early April a good time to visit? I'm traveling from Seattle and care spare two weeks but figured 3-4 days in each city might be enough. Thanks for the suggestions and assistance!

I’ve been to Hong Kong as I was there a couple of years ago and 4 nights should be fine. I did 5 nights there and for me that was too long. But, then again, Hong Kong and I didn’t jell. As for Shanghai, I haven’t been there yet.

Personally, I like more time to explore a destination. I have been to Hong Kong several times, and each time stayed a week. I still didn't get to some of the places on my list!
Remember that if you want 3 or 4 days in a location, you will need to spend 4 or 5 nights. Three nights yields only two full days.

I think it will be enough for Hong Kong but not for Shanghai. Shanghai is great ang huge metropolis and there are many interesting places.
When I was there last time 5 days wasn`t enough for me. But of course, it`s very individual. If you interested in famous places than it will be enough for you.

HK: depends on the type of activities you would like to have. HK has some nice hiking trails and that will take you some time. 3-4 days would be good enough for visiting some major attractions and tasting the local foods. I would suggest making the reservation for accommodation early since the hotel price in HK can be crazy
Shanghai: it's a big city and somewhat similar to HK for me as a Chinese. But you probably need to reserve more time for transportation in Shanghai comparing with HK. I do suggest you plan a few more days for visiting Suzhou which is close to Shanghai to experience more Chinese culture elements like the gardens and Chinese opera.

Thanks for the great responses guys! I know this trip won't be long enough to cover all but the major attractions. It will be a nice introduction into Shanghai and Hong Kong though. I'm thinking 4 days a city. Perhaps 5 in Shanghai since Suzhou and Hangzhou sound interesting. Is it easy to navigate around China if I want to take a trip to Suzhou and Hangzhou? Any popular tourist attractions that I should definitely see/avoid?
Thanks again for the great feedback. Much appreciated.
