SE Asia - Suggestions Needed

I am headed out later this week to SE Asia. Hong Kong, Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Jakarta and Bali.

Part work, part vacation. Any tips of must see or do things in any of these locations? Where is the best shopping? Any great restaurants? How about day trips?

Any advice is welcome.

Thanks

Andrew

Of course, there are lots of things to see and do in all of these places. We'll need more hints to be able to help. What are you interested in ? (nature, historic sites, cultural attractions, etc) What do you want to buy (local crafts, antiques, clothing off the rack or custom made, electronics, etc)

In which of these places might you have time for a weekend trip rather than just a day trip, and when you mention Malaysia, where else will you be besides KL?

A general answer about shopping, Hong Kong and Singapore will be more expensive than the other locations.

Later this week? And you have never been to any of these places before?

And you are only asking now?

Look, giving you the benefit of the doubt sounds like a last minute work trip. In which case the best thing you can do is just get out there.

Skip dinner in the fancy place in which you are likely staying and go out there are look. Savour the street life: eat at a local eatery.

If you have time to spare there are excellent galleries/museums in KL, Singapore, Hong Kong. Not hard to find if you do a google.

In HK you might also like to take a ferry to one of the outlying islands.

Just buy a ticket and go.

In Bali - if you have a few spare days get on a bus to Ubud.

Hi Andrew,

No Thailand? Thailand is also actually best shopping, very cheap. Have you been before? Also the most recommended place I would say in Thailand, other than Bangkok, is Phuket - check out this link http://www.phuket-guide.com just for your future reference
