Recommendations for Ryokan in Arashiyama

I am looking for a nice ryokan on the river in Arashiyama in Kyoto. I would like a river view and a private, in-room onsen would be lovely. Any recommendations?

I have not stayed in Arashiyama. Am replying because I doubt you will get a recommentation. You are asking for something specific, maybe rare.

I think by ryokan you mean a traditional ryokan (vs, say, a ryokan hotel). In Arashiyama, ok, so far so good, but maybe not a lot to choose from in that specific location. On the river narrows it, but a property like that would be expected to have rooms with river view. With onsen, ok I am a bit surprised there are hot springs there, but there are. Then, to have all your boxes checked there would be an in-room onsen bath.

I found one place on the river with rooms that have a "private semi-open air bath". You can see in the photos that it is, basically, a nice hinoki (cypress wood) bath on/near a balcony/patio. They do have rooms with river views. But it looks like the hinoki onsen baths are only in the garden view rooms.

Here is another lodging, hotel, that has Western/Japanese rooms with open air bath or semi-open air bath.

Good luck. I hope you find exactly what you are looking for.

Oh, and I am assuming that you will be two persons, not solo. Solo would make it more difficult.

Hoshinoya along the river in Arashiyama, very beautiful high end property accessed by boat. In central Kyoto along the Shirakawa canal I like Shiraume ryokan, located in a very interesting area.

Thank you for your reply.
Actually, Arashiyama Benkei Ryokan was my first choice, but they have been closed for renovations since last Fall, and the email response to me is that they are uncertain when the renovations will be completed. I am disappointed.

Will check out your other suggestions. Trip is coming up fast, so I need to tie down reservations soon.
