Kuranosuke...If you are used to driving in mountains, then driving to Doi Suthep shouldn't be a problem. I'm used to them since when I took my driving class(back when I was around 15), we had to drive in all types of mountain conditions.So, it's been decades of driving in mountains. So, for me it's quite natural. I wouldn't have a problem driving to Doi Suthep at all.Just make sure the brakes are REAL good in the car! Happy Travels!

This is all great advice, thanks! I neglected to say in my original post that we also have 3 nights planned at the beach in Bali, in addition to our 5 nights in Ubud. I think we will keep it to two nights in Chiang Mai (and squeeze in Doi Suthep in that time) and add that extra night to Bangkok. (I wish we had more specific interests, but unfortunately we are interested in crafts, scenery, and temples, so we are trying to get a bit of everything in!)
