Price of a cab from KIX or NRT

Could someone please estimate for me the cost of a cab ride (for 2 adults) from KIX to downtown Kyoto?

What about from NRT to downtown Tokyo?

Trying to decide which airport to fly into...

Thank you.

Are you sitting down?

A taxi from KIX to Kyoto is over $200; NRT to Tokyo would be more or less the same, though the Shinjuku area would be considerably more than the eastern area of the city.

There is, however, comfortable and excellent train service from KIX to Kyoto (search the forum for Haruka) and from NRT to Tokyo (search for Narita Express).

From Narita it is a very good airport bus, going to all major hotel. In Arrivaals hall, go to the Airport limousine desk (colored in orange) and tell them what hotel you will stay, so they can indicate you what bus and the time. The bus come each 20 or 30 minutes
, it is very comfortable. The cost is 30 US$. They put your luggage in and also they drop them in front of the hotel door.

Yes...taxis between Narita and Tokyo, KIX and Kyoto are spendy indeed. There are excellent and affordable alternatives in the trains and the limousine buses. I'd venture a guess that the only people who would actually use a taxi for this trip are those on an unlimited expense account. The trains and buses are simple to understand, easy to use, clean and fast.

Choose which airport to fly into based upon your itinerary. If Kyoto/Osaka is your first destination, then KIX. If Tokyo is your first destination, then NRT. There is little or no price difference between flights to/from NRT and KIX, and little price difference between airport to city/hotel transportation between the two.
