Sounds doable for a young man. Regarding the diving, if you don't do too many dives then that should be fine but if you are a serious diver then I would take time to rest before flying the next day.
For the North, Chiang Mai -Chiang Rai area this could be fun for you: http://www.treetopasia.com/
Also if you have more time I would try and visit a nearby town "Pai", very laid back, lots of pubs with chill music, restaurants etc and very inexpensive.
Have fun!

WOW, that is a lot but then you have lots of energy...
many of the chain hotels will have military discounts: sheratons, marriott, hilton/conrad, intercontinental... look on the hotel websites...
if you want to be where the action is, then i suggest that you stay in the sukhumvit/plenochit area in bkk.... the jw marriott is well located, as is the sheraton grande and the westin....the renaissance and the courtyard and intercontinental are also well located... hyatt too...
you will want a hotel with a pool...
not sure if it is worth your time to go to chiang mai as those things are available elsewhere....
hotel sites: www.agoda.com
www.sawadee.com
www.asiarooms.com
hire tong for the day to take you to some sights outside of bkk: www.tourwithtong.com
she is fabulous and will give you a really nice day...

btw whats like a good price range for hotels because of everything being so cheap over there and the conversion rate being so go i didnt know what a decent hotel went for. ive seen some on sites that are like 15 bucks and some that are 200 so dont exactly know how to choose the right budget for that. all we want is a simple hotel thats close to pretty much everything and is safe other than that we dont care.
