>>>We will depart from Newark airport,<<<
Greetings wkwb and pleased to see you contemplating holiday in Asia.
Departing Newark, can't help but give the highest praise to Singapore Airlines flight 21 : all business class, non-stop service, Newark - Singapore. (With yes, SQ's business class tariff to match.) I've flown that particular flight on only a few occasions for work (and the return, via SQ22); such efficient, memorable rides.
Naturally, SQ21 would put you in my home port of Singapore. Not such a bad place to spend a few evenings, before flying on to other locales. (More than happy to offer SIN lodging / recreation reccos.) I truly cherish having a home, family and work in the city-state.
Flying out of Singapore, perhaps consider some of my current Asia business travel stops, namely, Bangkok, Hong Kong or Tokyo (via SQ non-stop service out of SIN for all three, yes). And, if you fancy some tranquility, the Amanpuri on Phuket, via SilkAir service from Singapore -- and do remember the chequebook for that peaceful place. Pleased to offer more flight, hotel, dining suggestions for said cities. (Can't help you with Cambodia and Vietnam, as those two countries are not on my present Asia / trans-pac business travel circuit.)
Wherever you stay, and however you fly, enjoy. Signing off from SF Bay Area, soon to fly back to Asia this evening via the always enjoyable SQ1. Warm weekend wishes to you and all,

Thai has parked its 340-500, and doesn't have the non-stop to LAX anymore. Singapore is putting economy back onto its own 340-500, still trying to make a penny from its non-stops. Not sure about when the conversion is taking place.

I had called UA direct, and yes they did have flights which didn't appear on-line. (Also,Thai Air doesn't serve the NY area airports, and their flight from LAX to BKK stops in Korea). So we're set now, and I'm working on ground arrangements. Again, many thanks to all for your advice.
