I was last in Central Java over a decade after Michael's photos, and I was struck by how little it appeared to have changed in that time. I have a number of nearly identical photos! I loved central Java and it's one of the places we are considering for 2009.

Yup, of course Borobudur and Prambanan still look the same, except for perhaps some earthquake damage to Prambanan. The becak, horse carts, old ladies wearing batik and selling jamu (herbal remedies), countryside, old houses, ete etc are all there! I love to look at Mt. Merapi smoking in the distance!!!!
