Phuket in May- rain every day?

We leave for Phuket next Friday , the five of us, and are staying for a week. I checked the rain graphs and know that in May the rain triples (380mm). Unfortunately this is the only time we can travel. My question, does it rain all day or just thunderstorms in the afternoon and night? Is it better, given we have a wheel chair to push, just to go somewhere else?

The answer I'd like to give: YES, it will rain every second of every day and your vacation will be miserable.

The answer you'll find if you'd bother to do a search on the topic here, or anywhere: No, it may rain every day, but only for an hour or so, usually in the late afternoon.

If you don't want the rain and do want a beach, choose a different beach in Thailand. Koh Samui or Hua Hin, for instance would have better weather. Also, weren't you the person asking about the John Gray tours? Lots of those kinds of activities don't operate during the rainy season as the seas can be quite rough.

John Gray says he goes out every day of the year...missing only the actual day of the 2004 tsunami.

Book tours when you get there so you can monitor weather.

http://www.phuketgazette.net and go to weather for current and forecast.

OP is booked on Jetstar from Australia direct to Phuket already.

Michael, I did do a search and thats how I knew what the rainfall was. An hour or so a day mainly in the afternoons would not be a problem, if questions such as mine bother you then why answer? In Bali it rains in the afernoon, in Fiji it rains all day, the question was worth asking. Thank you James, we have booked the Andaman beach suites, they were perfect and we will book our tours when we arrive. Thanks for you time and effort.

We are on the road at the moment but taking a break at the PC so I'll throw these in as I think, so need to respond.

Dino Park: Up the hill leaving Karoan towards Kata, fun place for burgers, very touristy but the kids will like it, there are steps into it but again no worries, I pressume your other kids are used to lifting the w/chair and anyway some kind Thai will step staight in, not easy to navigate but it's ok.

Fantasea - Not my thing at all ( but that is because I don't like seeing animals trained to perform - but that is personal and not my place to tell others how to enjoy ), otherwise a good evening out, huge Disney style thing, show, don't do the buffet and show, not worth it, just the show. That's at Kamala and like any tours they will pick you up and drop you off where you stay.
Pedestrian crossing do not mean a thing, use sense when crossing breach road.
Family togetherness - if you want to do a Temple family blessing let me know and I will tell you how to go about it ( this is a personal thing but it is something some like to do, others not interested ).
If you walk out onto Rat-U-Thit road ( land side of suites ) and turn left, walk along a few nundred meters and you will see the 'Deli' Mini-mart on the right, this is great if you want to stock up on snacks to keep in the suite, has good selection, breads, spreads, snacks and drinks etc, far better choice than 7-11/Family Mart, though both those are very close.
Main malls are in the center of the island, very cheap and lots of eateries as well as supermarkets, if you need shopping of that kind. In Paton just along Rat-U-Thit past Sopi Bangla is Jungceylon Mall, quite good though not everywhere was opened a couple of months back but should be by now.
Stock your min bar/fridge from 7-11, cheap, 1L water is B 5/6. Buy some of the B 9 bottles with the sealable drink cap.
Reception can book all tours but there are other tour places nearby, compare rates, if the same book from reception.

Most important of all : Bring your own Vegemite, it's AUD 11 a tiny jar here!
