Phuket

Can anyone recommend a beach front bungalow reasonably priced, close to all amenities etc on Phuket. First time to Phuket area and Thailand. Also some other accomodations on Samui and Samet. Any help is greatly appreciated. Dhsundbe

Hi dhsundbe-

It might help if you put a price range on what you consider "reasonable".
For some people, reasonable in Thailand may be anything under $15 per night, for others, it's anything under $100. For me, it would be around $50 a night.

It would also help if you put the time of year you will be traveling. Prices can double in High Season (pretty much now-the end of April).

Good luck!

Phuket has a huge choice, but when it comes into the beachfront bungalow unfortunately there just aren't too many of those types of places right on the beach, for USD 100 mid January you will find accommodation but it might not be what you expect. Also as is peak time you might have to broaden you anticipations quite wide.
Close to shopping/ busy areas means patong to be right in the busiest pasr or Kata / Karom / Kamala to be 'close'. The only places right on the beach at Karon are Karon beach resort or Marina Cottage, but probably over that price quite a bit, a little further to Kata or north to Kamala you migth get within the price but you probably would not be right on the beach. There are places north, say 30-40 minutes to the busy areas like Bangtao area, something like the best Western Premier at around USD 120 would be a 'bargain' at that time of year. Around same price the Amora Bangtao.

I think you really need to deide beach area first but note that at Karon you would be across the beach road from the beach in that sort of price range.

You really need to devide on which beach area first, try www.beachsiam.com/phuket.html to help see about the different beaches

Samui is different situation totaly, there are lots and lots of beachfront places and bargain cottages / bungalow type places where you can step right onto the beach. Normaly though in January the weather would not be as good as Phuket but the way the weather seems these days who can tell! But you would have a large choice within that price of more natural 'beach bungalow' style places.
