Perhentians/Tioman

I am in Malaysia in August and will be in KL and then Penang for a week, Looking for somewhere on the east coast to spend 3-4 days. Should I go to Tioman or Perhentians?
also can you recommend clean good quality accommodation. Come on guys I need your help!

Either one is gorgeous, but Tioman seems a little more commercial than Perhentian. If you're only going to be in KL and Penang for a week, why not go to Pangkor or Langkawi?

I recommend Pulau Redang. Cheaper, less commercialized, great snorkelling. We stayed on the mainland at Merang and boated over for snorkelling, so I can't recommend accomodations, but definitely stay ON the island. Merang was sad, and the beach was nothing compared to what we saw on Redang!

You will need to fly to Kuala Terangganu from KL, then shuttle to the ferry in Merang. Kind of a pain, but I think worth it.

Perhentian Islands get my vote. When I was in Tioman seven years ago, the coral reefs nearer to the island were dead, I had to hire a boat to go further out to see some decent corals. While Perhentian was just paradise, beautiful corals, pristine beaches and not too commercialised.

my vote goes to Perhentian or Redang on the east coast, and Pangkor on the west coast.

Tioman is a little more commercialised, Redang seemed to follow the same foot steps... good thing there are still unspoilt beaches at the moment though.
